So I decided I wanted to make a cake for Inauguration Day. From scratch. Decorated with frosting, also made from scratch.
I’ve made this Vanilla Buttercream Frosting from Savory Sweet Life a few times before, but I needed a dead simple cake recipe.
I found a really simple yellow cake recipe on About.com, which even helpfully explained how to turn all purpose flour into cake flour!
I followed (sort of, mostly) the excellent How to Ice a Cake tutorial on Prudent Baby, and it turned out . . . okay!
Not visually fantastic, but not Cake Wrecks worthy, and, of course, delicious – the most important thing of all.
Happy Inauguration Day!!
